“You know me, if I can’t find a problem to solve, I’ll create one!” - Jennifer Anderson, executive coach, senior executive, MSEE
I famously said that during a meeting with my agency’s Deputy Director. After a moment of stunned silence, we both broke into laughter.
Nobody needs more problems.
So, what did I mean by that?
Well, if you can’t find a problem to solve, make one! There is always something that can be made better, faster, less expensive, and certainly easier and more joyful. Even if everything appears to be going swimmingly, your team and you cannot rest on your laurels.
This is where, as a leader, you can express your vision and desire for a genuinely better future. Better yet, you can include your team in brainstorming improvements and solutions they’d like to see. Even by focusing on just one small thing you can make a big difference.
Momentum begets momentum.
With each simple improvement, you gain positive energy and enthusiasm for tackling the next problem. If you are strategic in your choices, you can knock down impediments and create capacity for greater success.
“The major difference between successful and unsuccessful people is that the former look for problems to resolve, whereas the latter make every attempt to avoid them.” - Grant Cardone, CEO, Cardone Capital
