ABOUT LEADER2LEADER
Jennifer's Story
I’m curious. I listen to learn.
This is your life. Your career. You are in the driver’s seat. You decide where you are going, how you are going to get there, and when. Together, we will enable self-insight, explore options, and empower you to choose your path to success. I’m an engineer at heart, a problem solver. This is what I do: listen closely to learn your priorities, and help you turn your personal vision into a practical action plan that works for you.
I’m passionate about YOUR success.
I want you to know that I’m in your corner, rooting you on, helping you discover your full potential, and guiding you through transformations that equip you to lead in a brittle, anxious, non-linear, and incomprehensible (BANI) world.
I’ve coached dozens of professionals – primarily Senior Executives and Flag Officers – through life-changing experiences and career transitions. Many started out so overwhelmed and stressed out that they felt paralyzed to make changes, fearing that they would be buried even deeper under their work piles. Their personal relationships were suffering, making the situation worse. They were miserable and it was very visible. The answers lie within each of us, and through my coaching method, they discovered their path forward to a life full of choices, growth, and joy. Let me be there on your journey, too.
I’ve seen the effects of coaching firsthand.
During a recent peak in my career, everyone around me would have thought that I had it all – I had been hand-picked to lead an extremely high visibility, top priority program. I built it from scratch, was achieving mission results, and while under extreme scrutiny by the Board of Directors, I also had their admiration and appreciation for tackling such a tough problem. But the pressure I was under was so intense, I felt trapped… I was miserable, and worse, so was my family. But the truth is, I didn’t realize any of this until I found coaching. While I was researching how to further improve my team’s performance and to specifically address an “energy vampire” on the team, I stumbled upon “coaching” and followed the online trail to discover the International Coach Federation (ICF). I pursued training as an Executive Coach and during this training, I learned how to break out of the hard shell that I had built around myself.
While this shell had walled off the critics, it had also distanced me from friendships, new relationships, and most importantly from my authentic self. Through each coaching session, I transformed, empowering myself to break out of the shell and share with others my true self. I completed the stressful project with a new outlook, addressed the poor performers, and incorporated coach-like-leader skills into my leadership style. I subsequently laid out a path forward and changed jobs into one that allows me more quality time with my family and to focus my energy on coaching others.
I have the experience and know-how as a leader myself.
As a highly accomplished Senior Executive, I bring unique experience, perspective, and drive to my coaching clients. I know how hard I had to work to get to this level of leadership and what it takes to sustain success. I have led a variety of engineering teams and 24/7 operational activities to tackle complex technical problems, handle cyber intrusions, and meet the time sensitive demands of customers in the highest levels of the U.S. Government. I have built leadership teams, negotiated alliances, developed motivating visions, and driven change to achieve unprecedented mission successes.
Given the nature of the missions I have served, you will notice that I don’t avoid stress. In fact, I seek assignments where I can push myself, where the stakes are high and I can make a difference, learn something new, and have fun. This takes practice, calm, logical thinking, and focus. I bring this firsthand know-how and empathy to other leaders through coaching, training, and consultation. This is how I give back. This is how I honor my Virginia Tech Hokie heritage: Ut prosim. That I may serve.
I’m a mother and wife to boot.
My proudest accomplishments and greatest joys center around my family. I am blessed to be married for 28 years to my best friend and together we have raised two incredibly talented, caring, brilliant, and handsome (oh, mom!) sons.
I formed Leader2Leader to help other leaders achieve their goals, gain confidence, and build strong teams. One leader to another, growing from one level of leadership to the next, Leader2Leader.
